Press ReleaseWashington, D.C. – On Thursday, September 12, 2024, the Coalition of Concerned Clergy (CCC), a diverse network of religious leaders from local, regional, and national faith-based organizations, will hold a press conference to issue a theological response to the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025. The gathering will begin at 9:00 AM at the Union Station Bell, with the press conference commencing at 10:00 AM in front of the Heritage Foundation (212 Massachusetts Ave NE).
As faith leaders dedicated to engaging, empowering, and equipping communities on their God-given rights, the CCC firmly denounces Project 2025. We, the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, declare that we must move toward a more perfect union that establishes justice, ensures domestic tranquility, and provides equal protection for all citizens. Our mission is to promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of God for all people and future generations. To that end, we present this theological response to the scourge of Project 2025. |
We, the Coalition of Concerned Clergy, in order to move toward a more perfect union, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for equal protection for all citizens, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of God to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this theological response to the scourge of Project 2025.
We echo the sage dictum of The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr.:” We are tied together in the single garment of destiny, caught in an inescapable network of mutuality.” Project 2025 would rend the garment of destiny and destroy the network of mutuality, pushing us toward the brink, where we would all “perish as fools.”
We ground our response in the Bible, specifically Genesis 1:27-28, Leviticus 19:34; Proverbs 31:8-9; Malachi 3:5; Matthew 22:36-40; Luke 4:18-19 and Galatians 3:28
We specifically decry Project 2025's flawed policies, namely: (1) Economic, (2) Social, (3) Environmental, (4) Educational, (5) Healthcare, (6) Foreign Policy, (7) Civil Liberties, and (8) Cultural and Social Values. Said policies infringe upon the God-given, inalienable rights belonging to every human being, among these rights are the right to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and the exercise of free will.
